With the way the world has become interconnected, be it via travel or telecommunications, privacy and solitude have turned into priceless treasures. Though some stays, such as private villas and cabins, provide enough seclusion, others may prefer a much more reclusive yet luxurious escape. In that case, then a private island might just be what you’re looking for. These incredible retreats can be found in sorts of places, and though more common in the tropics, you can also find them in cooler climes like Finland or Norway. If this sort of vacation is the one you’ve been dreaming of, I suggest reading on and checking our list of the best private islands that you can rent through Airbnb.
Important tips about traveling to a private island:
- Check transportation logistics carefully, especially boat schedules and plans for inclement weather.
- Review the island's access to medical services and its availability in the region.
- Ask about the island’s waste and sustainability policies, so you know what you can bring and how trash is handled.
- Download offline maps, guides, and entertainment before arrival in case internet access is slow or unavailable.
- Inquire about privacy boundaries if the island also houses staff, researchers, or nearby communities.
We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on March 16, 2026.
1. Round Cay, Honduras (from USD 8186)
Located in Cayos Cochinos, Honduras, Round Cay is a private and exclusive island featuring three cabins with two rooms each. The bedrooms have a total of 10 beds, which means up to 16 people can be accommodated here. The cabins also have their own kitchenettes, living areas, and decks, and if you go to the common area, you can find a full-size kitchen and a ping-pong table.
I believe a good way to enjoy your day is by lounging under the sun on the private beach or swimming in the Caribbean Sea. You can also go deep-diving or boating with your companions.
Recommendations from the host, Ana:
- Activities: Cayos Cochinos Foundation (Cayo Cochino Menor, Bay Islands)
- Food & Drinks: Cayo Chachahuate Garifuna community (WGWC+9JH, Cayo Chachaguate, Cayos Cochinos)
Cayos Cochinos, Bay Islands Department, Honduras

2. Majorsgrund, Finland (from USD 2760)
Take a break from your busy life and seek refuge on Majorsgrund, a private island in Finland. On this island, you can find a 90-square-meter (968.75-square-foot) house equipped with three bedrooms, two living rooms, and four extra sofa beds. If you’re traveling with a baby, a crib is available. For your dining needs, there’s a fully equipped kitchen.
You won’t run out of exciting things to do here. You can play board games or stream movies on your devices with your companions. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, I recommend heading outside for a swim on the beach or lounging in the backyard. You can relax in the sauna when you’re tired after a long day.
Recommendations from the hosts, Timo and Jannis:
- Food & Drinks: Köttdisken Malax Ab (Köpingintie 11, 66100 Maalahti)
- Sightseeing: Kyrö Distillery Company (Oltermannintie 6, 61500 Isokyrö)
Malax, Finland

3. Floral Island, Philippines (from USD 1743)
Whisk yourself and your loved ones to paradise, and book your stay at Floral Island, a private island in El Nido, Philippines. This island features enough accommodations for extremely large groups — there are 16 beds total, which can sleep around 24 or more people. A crib is even available if you’re traveling with a baby. Your meals (Filipino cuisine) are already included with the price, but if you want to cook, there’s a fully equipped kitchen at your disposal.
What I like most is that you won’t easily run out of exciting things to do here. Since the resort is right on the beach, you can enjoy swimming, kayaking, and other activities. You can even go scuba diving if you want.
If you’re feeling sore and tired at the end of the day, you can head to the massage hut, where you can get a soothing massage while enjoying the view.

4. El Nido, Philippines (from USD 2346)
El Nido is a picturesque coastal region in the Philippines, and this is exemplified in Brother Island, available for rent and the only one of its kind in the area. Those coming here will be treated to a fully inclusive experience, complete with a chef to cook three traditional meals a day for all of the guests as part of the staff on hand, which includes boatmen, caretakers, and one of the hosts. The vast home can accommodate up to 12 people at a time, spread out through seven bedrooms and common spaces, which can include hammocks for those going all in on their tropical vacation experience. The island is surrounded by pristine waters, which you and your guests can explore through pre-arranged snorkeling expeditions, and the island has a lush expanse of jungle with hiking trails that beckon to those curious nature lovers. My favorite part is that the property is family-friendly and pet-friendly, and it even has internet access and a coffee and tea bar available to guests on an around-the-clock basis.
Guests should note that alcoholic beverages are not included in the cost. While the bar is available and stocks some spirits and other beverages, if you have particular preferences, you may bring your own with you. However, there is a small corkage fee charged.

5. Placencia, Belize (from USD 1033)
This island rental off of the coast of Belize is a prime choice for those couples who want to get away from it all in a tropical setting. Hideaway Caye is an isolated mangrove island, replete with boardwalks that allow guests to navigate the island at their whim. Hideaway Caye is part of the larger UNESCO World Heritage Site of South Water Caye Marine Reserve, which I think is the most amazing aspect of this tropical getaway. There is a restaurant and bar that is attached to the cabana which are open to the public for limited periods of time, but the cabana itself is primarily for two people although there is a futon for another guest with advance notice in addition to the master bedroom. This rental is also notable in that the owners of the island run the restaurant and bar and are responsible for the meals, even those you may be inclined to catch while out fishing. The amenities include access to fishing gear and snorkeling equipment, but nothing along the lines of heavy electronics in keeping with the environmental guidelines.
Bed linen and extra comforts like blankets are supplied. Bathroom essentials such as towels, bed sheets, soap, and toilet paper are also included in the booking. Clients need to bring their own swimming costumes and swimming towels. As it gets very hot, make sure to pack some sunscreen.
More information about the property:
- Children aren't usually allowed due to the safety risks, although exceptions can be made for kids over 8 years old.
- The hosts can arrange guided excursions for an additional charge.
- They can also arrange pickups and drop-offs at the marina with their partner water taxi service.

6. Juggler Lake, Minnesota (from USD 3711)
Four hours north of Minneapolis lies this charming island in the midst of an entire forest that spans 18 acres (7.28 hectares) with an A-frame styled house right at its center. I personally love how this island offers a superb way to truly soak up all that the American heartland has to offer. The home can host up to eight guests between three bedrooms and has two bathrooms available. For those who love the outdoors, there’s an opportunity to also rent a pontoon boat from the hosts to go fishing in the lake and to see the headwaters that lead into the mighty Mississippi River. Guests can also explore the forest at their leisure using the various trails. Itasca State Park is also in close proximity to the property. The home has three patios attached, a floating dock for diving and swimming and a hefty barbecue grill. Included in the amenities available are high-speed internet access, a full kitchen with two refrigerators and freezers and a jetted tub in the master bedroom.
As you need to park your car at the public access, and transfer to the island, it’s highly recommended that you plan your arrival during daylight hours. The transfer takes about three minutes by boat. Your hosts will either meet you or make other arrangements.

7. Vesterøy, Østfold, Norway (from USD 1003)
This island Airbnb is part of the Hvaler archipelago in the southeastern Norwegian county of Ostfold, halfway between the capital of Oslo and Sweden. The 10,000 square mile (25899.88 sq km) island is home to a cute little red cottage perched right by the shore. This part of the world sees a high amount of sunny days, and the island’s location makes it an ideal place to enjoy them all with a good view of the local bridge in the distance - and makes for some remarkable photographs. The cottage itself is able to host up to five guests, be they a group of friends or a family with two beds available and a travel crib if needed. The Vesterøy cottage is designed for enjoyable stays off the grid, so there’s limited electricity and no television. There’s also no bathroom save for a small privy adjacent to the cottage. Guests staying here do have access to a small boat and landing quay for travel back and forth to the mainland and can use any of the small private beaches found on the island.
Guests should note that conditions are rustic and there is no running water, which I think may pose a problem if you don’t prepare and arrive with supplies. Drinking water is available from a local grocery store for free. In the cabin, guests will find containers which may be used to collect drinking water. The grocery also has facilities where you may charge your laptop.

8. Cavinti, Philippines (from USD 101)
Three hours outside of the capital city of Manila in the Sierra Madre mountains lies this private island. The island is a serene outpost for those looking for quiet comfort and reflection, and has its own private boat to ferry guests back and forth. It’s off the grid for the most part, so that means there’s no internet access or television. But there is a kitchen available along with electricity from a generator, and enough room to accommodate up to 15 guests between one bedroom and common spaces. There’s a separate dining hall a few feet away from the main home, and an open space perfect for events or just quiet moments to take everything in.
If I were here, I’d pass the time by hanging out by the firepit, keeping warm and enjoying the evening ambiance. Alternatively, why not gather your group in the study area and sit down for an evening of bonding over board games. If you wish, you may even book the premises for a long-term stay.

9. Collanmore Island Lodge in Westport, Mayo, Ireland (from USD 2647)
Just 10 minutes from the town of Westport in the southeast corner of Clew Bay, you’ll find this amazing private lodge on Collanmore Island. As someone from a big city, celebrating events like weddings on a private island is just plain perfect if you’re looking for that unique and memorable touch. With the lush greenery and the water surrounding you, intimate gatherings with friends and family are definitely going to be memorable.
The private lodge can sleep up to 22 people as it features 4 huge bedrooms complete with 12 double and single beds. Indoor amenities also include Wi-Fi connection, TV with standard cable, fireplace, air conditioning, and a fully equipped kitchen. The outdoors, on the other hand, features a huge landscaped space, a patio, and a barbecue grill. Guests can also indulge in a lot of fun water activities such as kayaking and fishing right around the island.

10. Bird Island, Belize (from USD 3414)
This island Airbnb for rent may be the postcard image that comes to mind when you think of “island getaway” and with good reason. Bird Island is off the coast from Placencia Village, nestled right in the middle of protected waters and right on a private atoll. This gaily-colored home is decked out with enough yard space to enjoy the warm sun and air of the Gulf of Mexico and allows guests to view all of the splendid wildlife that populates the waters of the reef including flocks of pelicans that perch on tiny islands offshore.
Recent expansions now allow for Bird Island to accommodate up to six people throughout the cabana with three bedrooms and two bathrooms in the main house with additional wings. In terms of communication, I find it important and handy that there’s a phone line available for local calls along with wireless internet. The house has a full kitchen, and the host does advise that you bring enough provisions to last you for your stay. In addition, Bird Island also runs on solar power generators and offers two-person kayaks and knee boards for those who want to explore the waters surrounding the atoll.
Guests should note that given the remoteness of the island, that they should plan for a drive from Belize International of at least five hours including, shopping and transfer to the island. It may be better to rather arrange a flight to Placencia from Belize International Airport in order to arrive before dark.

This private island is situated in the heart of a serene lake and is best suited for people craving a peaceful getaway. There are three fully equipped cabins, comfortably sleeping up to six guests. There’s also a full-size kitchen for your dining needs and a dedicated workspace if you need to work during your stay.
I find the outside area to be just as marvelous. A private backyard with a fire pit and hammock is the perfect place for hanging out during lazy afternoons. When you want to cool down, dive into the lake and swim for an hour or two. At the end of the day, head to the sauna to relieve your tired muscles.

12. Ilha Grande, Brazil (from USD 1754)
Two hours outside of Rio de Janeiro lies Ilha Grande, a exquisite slice of tropical Brazilian life. It sits 20 minutes outside of the harbor of Portogalo and the town of Angra dos Reis, and actually consists of two islands connected by a bamboo bridge. The first island of Ilha Grande has a domicile constructed with an Italian influence in terms of style and contains four bedrooms. The bridge leads to the smaller island that has a home with two bedrooms. Between the two homes, there are six bathrooms available for usage. If I were you, I’d let the on-site staff handle the cooking, although what they’ll prepare depends on whatever groceries that you’ll provide. The main home has an indoor fireplace available, and a stone deck for gatherings and to launch from using canoes and the standing paddle boards that are also provided for guest for small aquatic excursions. Other amenities include internet access as well as the opportunity to bring pets along for your stay.
Your rental sleeps up to 14 guests. It has six bedrooms and each one has its own bathroom. Twelve beds are supplied. It comes with three decks to enjoy. One is for bathing, one for docking and the third is there for you to enjoy the sunsets after a day of outdoor adventure.
