Sukkulenten-Sammlung Zürich is just a five-minute drive from this hostel. The Zurich collection of succulents (about 6,500 species and varieties) is one of the world's largest and is protected by the International Organization for their research.

In the late 1920s, Jacob Gasser unsuccessfully tried to sell a collection of succulents to Zurich. Julius Brann bought it as a private individual in 1929 but donated it to the city two years later. Hans Kreinz became director of the collection in 1931 and established international contacts. In 1950, the International Organization for the Study of Succulents (IOS) was created. Thanks to the horticultural engineer Diedrich Supthut, the Zurich collection was significantly expanded before Thomas Bolliger modernized it.
