About the East River
Although called a river, the East River is a tidal strait with a length of 16 m (25.75 km) and a width of 600 to 4,000 ft (200 to 1,200 m). It links Upper New York Bay with New York City, separating Manhattan Island from Brooklyn and Queens. The river is home to Roosevelt Island, which features beautiful waterfront parks and an aerial tramway with stunning views, called Roosevelt Island Tramway.
