Everything about New York City is larger than life. Walking through Central Park, endless shopping on Fifth Avenue, binging on street food, and visiting the Statue of Liberty and Times Square are must-dos while you are in ‘the Empire City of the New World’. The city also has plenty of Instagrammable places, one of which is the East River. It is not exactly a river, but a saltwater estuary that stretches over 26 km (16 mi). The famous Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges are located on the East River. Riverside is one of the best places to stay during your trip to NYC. These river-view hotels give an excellent glimpse of the New York City skyline, across the river. Let’s check out some of the best hotels with a view of the East River in New York City.

Events to look out for:

New York City is buzzing with exciting events throughout the year. No matter when you’re visiting the city, you’ll be able to attend something fun!

  • NYC Restaurant Week: Ideal for foodies, this event held every summer and winter guarantees top-notch dining at world-class restaurants. You can relish two- or three-course meals curated by some excellent chefs from the city.

  • New York Fashion Week: Are you a fashionista visiting New York during fall or winter? Try to get on the guest list for this glitzy fashion event graced by top designers and coveted celebrities.

  • Cherry Blossom Festival: This beautiful spectacle takes place every year during springtime. Nature lovers can soak in the beauty of 200 blooming cherry trees at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. There’s also a week-long festival celebrating Japanese culture, where you can enjoy activities such as tea ceremonies and bonsai-pruning workshops!

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and access to views. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on October 30, 2025.

From transportation tips to medical essentials and everything in between, the New York City local guides share all the must-know information to help you plan your trip.

About the East River

Although called a river, the East River is a tidal strait with a length of 16 m (25.75 km) and a width of 600 to 4,000 ft (200 to 1,200 m). It links Upper New York Bay with New York City, separating Manhattan Island from Brooklyn and Queens. The river is home to Roosevelt Island, which features beautiful waterfront parks and an aerial tramway with stunning views, called Roosevelt Island Tramway. You can also find the NYC UN headquarters by the river.

Tips for visiting:

  • Avail the NYC Ferry network to easily navigate the river. This is also the cheapest way to explore it. The express ferries also offer an opportunity for visitors to check out some attractions on the way.
