These naturally occurring hot springs have a variety of health benefits and can ease the tension in your mind and body. Also, we know that everyone likes to feel pampered once in a while. Niseko is famous for the winter holidays, where guests can indulge in skiing and snowboarding all day long. But, come rain or shine, and regardless of the season, the onsens are the ideal place to relax and unwind. There are a multitude of onsens in the area. Here’s a rundown of the top onsens in Niseko, Hokkaido, Japan.

1. Hotel Kanronomori

With both indoor and outdoor baths to enjoy, alongside additional facilities, it is easy to understand why this site is popular. Guests can take full advantage of the fitness center, which is free to use, play billiard and tennis, enjoy yoga sessions, and even have a go at boxercise classes. The onsen includes two large public areas, an inside private onsen and you can even secure a room with a private onsen. It is open from 11 am until 9 pm daily and comes with an additional fee of 9 USD.

2. Niseko Hot Spring Ikoino Yuyado Iroha

The nearest JR station is just 10 minutes away, and this property is perfect for larger family groups. If you want something extra-special, be sure to book a room with mountain views. A lot of the rooms have a mix of western-style beds and futon bedding so that guests can choose. For a small additional fee, after dipping in the beautiful outdoor onsen, which is surrounded by trees, you can book a massage. The baths are open for public use and split by gender. We’d recommend ringing in advance to check whether tattoos are permitted or not.

3. Chalet Ivy

This large onsen boasts spacious rooms, some with breathtaking mountain views, modern amenities, and delicious cuisine. We think that this location is an excellent choice, if you are looking to enjoy the partly-enclosed natural baths but still want modern features. The onsen is for guests only free of charge. If you have tattoos, we’d recommend checking directly with the hotel. Each of the rooms are equipped with a flat-screen television, safety box, fridge, and bathroom. Additional features include kitchenette, and if you choose one of the suites, an Apple TV. The rooms at the Chalet Ivy are ideal for larger holiday groups.

4. Niseko Northern Resort, An'nupuri

Another excellent location where you can enjoy not only the indoor and outdoor onsens, but also beauty treatments, as well. The private onsen is open from 6 am until 9 am and then from 1 pm until midnight. Guests with tattoos can not access the onsens. This resort is just a short 10-minute walk from the nearest JR station and has a number of room styles. Guests can take full advantage of the on-site restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. There is free WiFi, parking, additional activities such a shore riding and table tennis, and the property is even ski-to door friendly. This property is very modern and stylish.

5. One Niseko Resort Towers

Located near to the mountains, the rooms are large and comfortable, with decorations in soft neutral colors that instantly relaxes you. We adore the unique design of the rooms, where some of them include both western-style seating and a separate tatami-mat floor seating area. The largest room they have is called the Penthouse and can comfortably host up to 10 people. Guests can enjoy the stunning scenery from the glass-enclosed hot-spring baths on site, which are open from 1 pm until 9 pm. The baths are open to both men and women, guests and the public and costs 9 USD. We’d recommend calling them in advance, if you have tattoos to ensure entry.

6. Country Inn Milky House

This charming property has a totally different vibe from our last listing and yet still offers everything you could need. The onsen feels very much like a home away from home. If you are traveling in a group, you might be interested in the cottage, which has space for 10 people. On-site homemade cuisine is offered for both breakfast and dinner. WiFi is available free of charge throughout the property and parking is also available on-site. It is worth noting that the hot spring is not located directly on the premises and is offered as an evening tour for guests. There is, however, a shared hot-spa styled bathroom on site.

7. The Vale Niseko

If you want an extra touch of luxury, then we would recommend this onsen apartment. Featuring breathtaking views from the hot-spring, 24-hour front desk and concierge service, you can be rest assured that you’ll be well looked after. The amenities differ depending on the type of apartment that you select. However, they all have a flat-screen television and DVD player. If you are hoping to have more flexibility we’d suggest looking at the units which include a full-size kitchen that comes with a microwave and an oven. Some units have a personal hot spring bath. The main hot spring bath is open to the public at a cost of 14 USD from 10 am until 10 pm.

8. Niseko Konbu Onsen Tsuruga Moku-no-sho

With wooden furnishings and multiples of gentle lighting, this is one of the most relaxing onsens on our list. This luxurious onsen has rooms, which are all equipped with a seating area, flat-screen televisions, yukata robes, and comfortable beds. It is worth noting that some of the rooms have a seating area with tatami mat flooring. So, if you’re looking for a more traditional experience, this is the onsen for you. The baths are open to the public and are split by gender. Guests can visit the baths between 3 pm until 10 am, but please note that tattoos are not permitted. Private reservation will cost 18 USD.

9. Kasara Niseko Village Townhouse

Something different for our next listing, this time you can stay in a whole private house. The property is fully equipped with a kitchen, three modern bedrooms, and a living room. This stunning and luxurious house can comfortably host up to six guests. Alongside the excellent on-site facilities, additional complementary services are included, like a guided mountain tour, an on-call driver, and the use of the hot-spring baths and fitness center at the hotel. The onsen is open from 1 pm until 9 am, and those with tattoo are not allowed.

10. Hotel Niseko Alpen

More than an onsen, this location includes the hot-spring baths, a beautiful stone sauna, and an indoor pool that guests can take full advantage of. Tattoos are permitted in the onsen, which is open from 5 am to 9:30 am and from 1 pm to 11 pm. It is open to both the guests and public - there is no additional charge for the guests, while the latter have to pay a fee of 9 USD to access it. Everything you need is available on the premises, including lockers, a restaurant, a mini-shop, car parking, and even karaoke. It is worth noting that the vast majority of the rooms are western-style, and there is only one Japanese-style room, which can comfortably host up to seven people, on futon bedding.
