After spending an eventful day of shopping, a customary visit to the centuries-old bakery, Nahoums and Sons, is a must for me. Don't forget to dig into the rum balls before you pick up a plum cake from here, especially if you are visiting around Christmas time.

Once you are done exploring all the nooks and crannies of New Market just behind the hotel, head to Sudder Street, an unassuming lane adjacent to the Indian Museum. On your way, you will come across a number of pavement stalls selling thrift clothes as cheap as 100 INR. Don't hesitate to browse through their collection as you might just come across some unique pieces. I have, more than once!
Once you reach Sudder Street, you will find several cute stores selling bohemian-chic attires, accessories, and even home decor items. My trusted corner here is Sunshine. They have a huge collection and I always end up buying more than my intention. But, make sure that you bargain hard.

However, if you are a history buff like me and would like to explore some of the nearby attractions just like I did during my stay here, you can visit Achipur nestled on the harboring banks of the Ganges. Achipur, which is credited as being the first Chinese settlement in India, is known for its famous Chinese temple. I love the architecture of the holy place, which is suffused with the quintessential flavors of China. I also make sure I enjoy a boat ride on the river right after, or spend some quiet time at the Budge Budge Ferry Ghat while watching ships sail away in the distance.

Take a short drive from your hotel to James Prinsep Ghat overlooking the Hooghly River. You may already be familiar with the iconic porch of the ghat as they have been featured in many films, such as Pyaasa (1957) and Parineeta (2005). Don't forget to click pictures as you pose amidst the rows of pillars, then take a peaceful stroll along the river bank. You can also go for a boat ride.
I always make it a point to visit Scoop Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlour, for the view. They have a vegetarian menu which doesn't appeal to me, but they offer a wide variety of sandwiches, pizza, and pasta which you can try. Their specialty is ice cream, so make sure to get one of their sundaes. My go-to is a simple cola float, which makes for the perfect accompaniment to lazy river-gazing.
