Dobrota, Montenegro is a part of Kotor’s Old Town. The coastal town Kotor has been listed as part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, because of the 16- to 17th- century Venetian fortifications built there. The fortifications were built during the Middle Ages, and though the city has changed hands under many different rulers, the magnificent fortifications are still there a sight to behold. Its ancient walls of three kilometres (four and a half miles) stretch along the city, marking Kotor as one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Adriatic coast. Many of its architecture and tourist attractions also date back to medieval times. There is the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, which dates back to 1166, and there’s also St John Fortress, which is worth the hike up. In Dobrota itself, the church of St Matthews and St Eustace with its stained glass windows and its valuable stash of paintings dating back to the Baroque times makes it worth a visit. Dobrota is well-known for being the beach suburbs of Kotor; Its pristine blue waters (much of the Adriatic Sea is like that) makes it a popular draw. For that reason alone, it is worth the drive up to the north of Kotor just to experience this little medieval town with its beach activities.
