Hangzhou is a place that combines the very old and the unabashedly new. The famous West Lake, the canals, and the old houses give it a very romantic vibe. Yet the city center is modern and Hangzhou is among the Chinese cities that are constantly growing.
If you visit Shanghai, you must plan a visit to Hangzhou as well, as the two very different cities are rather close to each other. Don’t travel here during Chinese New Year, though, as you will be surrounded by tourists.
